1.   Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park
  Built in 1898 by the Spaniards, the lighthouse still in use and was automated in 1964. In the premises, you'll find a museum with exhibits, a recreation area featuring a special area for children with replicas of ancient sailing ships and a pirate's island, a restaurant and sports facilities. Open Tue-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat-Sun 10am-7pm. Admissions: Adults $9, Children $7 and Parking $2. Reservation required for groups.

2.   Caparra Ruins Historical Museum & Park
  The Caparra Ruins are those of an ancient fort where Ponce de León founded the first settlement on the island in 1508. The Museum of the Conquest and Colonization of Puerto Rico located near the ruins offers historical documents, exhibits and artifacts. Open Mon-Fri 9:00am-4:00pm.

3.   Casa Alegria Museum
  The Casa Alegria Museum, former residence of master painter Marco Juan Alegria, features an exhibit hall, an art school and memorabilia from past decades. Open Monday-Friday, 800am - 4:30pm.

4.   Casa Armstrong-Poventud
  Casa Armstrong-Poventud building is a magnificent example of the neoclassical architectural heritage of the island, this white-domed building on the west side of the main square houses the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture and the Puerto Rican Tourism Company's regional offices. Guided tours are available. Located In front of the town square. Mon-Fri 8am-noon, 1-4:30pm.Closed, awaiting restoration.

5.   Casa Blanca
  Casa Blanca was built in 1521 by the family of Ponce de León, who lived in it for 250 years until it became the residence of the Spanish and then the US military commander-in-chief. It is now a historical museum which is well worth a visit. It houses two museums, one on the Taino Indians and one on the house's history, with emphasis on life in the 16th and 18th centuries. Open Tues-Sun, guided tours Tues-Fri by appointment, admission US$2 adults, US$1 children.

6.   Casa Cautino
  A beautiful home designed in creole-style architecture. Located off town plaza. Open Tue-Sun 8:00am-4:30pm

7.   Casa de la Masacre de Ponce
  On March 21, 1937, one of the bloodiest events in Puerto Rico's political history, a group of Nationalists, who were denied a permit to hold a demonstration, dressed in black shirts and assembled before this building. As they marched to the tune of the Puerto Rican national anthem, a shot was fired--the origin of which was never determined. An exchange of gunfire ensued between the marchers and police. Twenty people were killed and hundreds injured. Today, the building is remembered as the "The House of the Ponce Massacre" in recognition of the tragic event.

10.   Casa de Ramón Power y Girault
  Headquarters for the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico. In this house, Don Ramón Power y Giralt was born on October 27, 1775, to a family of landowners. At age 34, he was elected to be the representative for Puerto Rico in the Spanish Courts. During his incumbency, he won many important economic and political reforms for his country. The house has been restored; it also serves as a conservation resource center, in which critical environmental issues can be explored through an interactive multimedia exhibition entitled OJO-ISLA. Open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

11.   Casa del Libro
  An 18 century house, today is a museum and library devoted to the art of printing and book-making. Home to nearly 5,000 rare works of all kinds including sketches, illustrations and ancient manuscripts, the institution boasts 350 works predating the 16th century. Among the museum’s most precious possessions are two royal mandates signed by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1493 concerning provisioning Columbus' fleet for his second voyage, during which Puerto Rico was discovered. 14.   Casa Paoli
  Casa Paoli located in Ponce houses exhibits on the singer's life as well as a shop displaying colorful papier-mache masks used in Ponce's annual Carnival celebrations. Mon-Fri 10am-noon, 2-5pm.

17.   Casa Rosada
  Built in 1812 for the Spanish army. Today houses a government tourism office where you can pick up brochures, maps and a complimentary welcome cocktail made with Puerto Rican rum. Open daily from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Admission: $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for senior citizens and children.

19.   Centro Cultural de Barceloneta
  Located in the heart of the city, the museum provides the cultural and historical about Barceloneta. Also features a collection of Arqueological artifacts and Taino pieces. Open Mon-Fri 8:30am-4pm.

20.   Convento de los Dominicos (Convent of the Dominican Order)
  The Dominican Convent was built by Dominican friars in 1523, this building has served alternately as a convent, as a shelter against Carib Indian raids, and as the Caribbean headquarters of the U.S. Army. The convent contains a small chapel museum. Open daily 8am-4:30pm.
